Ultrasound

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the body’s internal structures. A skilled sonographer performs the procedure by moving a handheld device, called a transducer, over the targeted area to capture real-time visuals. At Truescan Radiology, we offer a wide range of ultrasound services, including general, musculoskeletal, obstetric, breast, cardiac, liver elastography and vascular imaging.

FAQs

Yes, all ultrasound exams require an appointment. You can book by phone, in person, or by submitting your referral. Our team will provide information on the next available time slot.

Preparation depends on the type of ultrasound. For example:

  • Abdominal ultrasound: May require fasting.
  • Pelvic ultrasound: May require a full bladder.

Our staff will provide clear instructions when you schedule your appointment. Wearing a comfortable two-piece outfit is recommended, and you may be asked to change into a gown. Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork.

Bring the following items:

  • Your referral form from your healthcare provider.
  • Your Medicare or DVA card, if applicable.
  • WorkCover claim details (if the procedure relates to a work injury).

A sonographer will guide you through the procedure and assist with preparation. You’ll typically lie on a bed, though some exams may require you to sit upright. A gel will be applied to your skin to help the transducer glide smoothly and capture clear images. Real-time visuals will appear on a monitor. After the scan, a radiologist will review the images and prepare a report for your referring doctor.

Truescan Radiology bulk bills most Medicare-eligible services. If your exam incurs additional fees, our team will notify you when booking or upon arrival.

Reports are generally completed within 24 to 48 hours. If your doctor has requested urgent results, inform our staff so the radiologist can prioritise your report.
